Kitimat’s unique location at the head of the Douglas Channel makes it a sport fisher’s paradise with access to salt and fresh water fishing within minutes of downtown. There are many ways to fish the Kitimat River, fish the mouth of the river in a jet boat, fish the length of the river in a drift boat, drive to a hot spot on the river bank, or hike in to a secluded spot.
Hike along the shores of the Douglas Channel, the banks of the Kitimat River or climb one of our beautiful mountains. Remember to take your camera. Opportunity to observe wildlife, big and small, will present itself when you least expect it!
Hirsch Creek Golf & Winter Club
Surrounded by some of the most stunning mountain scenery in the province, Hirsch Creek Golf & Winter Club is home to an extremely challenging 18 hole, par 72, championship golf course. It is comprised of and recognized for its competitive and diverse design and offers a memorable round for both beginner and experienced golfers.
Kayakers who venture out into the Douglas Channel are rewarded with stunning scenery, a few wonderful beaches, incredible rock formations and the chance to see some wildlife, including whales, on occasion.
Stand Up Paddle Boarding
Stand Up Paddle Boarding is the newest water sport craze to reach the Douglas Channel. A perfect sport to try on the no-wind days in Minette Bay. If you're feeling more adventurous, tag along with our local kayak tour operator and paddle the secluded bays and inner channels of the Douglas. You can bring your own board or check if one is available for you to rent.
