Delight in remote and beautiful scenery along Highway 16 and the Skeena River valley, and Highway 37 to Kitimat.  Travel south from Terrace along Highway 37 and enjoy several stops along the way including Lakelse Lake, Onion Lake, and Kitimat River with views of the mountains on either side of the valley.  In less than an hour off the Trans-Canada Yellowhead Highway 16, on Highway 37 you will be in Kitimat.  Highway 37 is the most travelled road in the North Coast highway system as it is one of only two land routes to Alaska.  Kitimat is Mile “0” for this over 800 kilometer-long highway to the Yukon border.

Arrive by rail in Terrace and rent a car there to travel to Kitimat and other northwest destinations.  The Via Rail stop at the George Little House in Terrace is less than one hour by vehicle from Kitimat.  Trains depart eastbound for Prince George Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 10:25 a.m. and westbound for Prince Rupert Monday, Thursday, and Saturday at 6:05 p.m.

Highway 37 Points of Interest – Mount Layton Hot Springs Resort, Lakelse Lake Provincial Park (BC Parks campground and day use area), Onion Lake (rest area and trail, and cross country ski trails).  You may also see a glimpse of the varied woodland wildlife including eagle, bear, moose, porcupine, deer, wolf, or fox.
